There are many Personal Trainers in Edmonton that are dedicated to helping you achieve your fitness goals, but many of our readers have asked us, “How do I find the right Personal Trainer for me?”.

This is the first part of our series, which we will talk about what you should look for in a personal trainer.

What to look for in a Personal Trainer:

  • Education - All Personal Trainers must be certified by a nationally accredited organizations such as CSEP, AFLAC or Can-Fit-Pro and have Standard First Aid and CPR.
  • Experience - Your Personal Trainer should have experience training others who also have the same goals as you. For example if you wish to become a Bodybuilder then you want a Personal Trainer who has been a bodybuilder or has trained other bodybuilders.
  • Specific Knowledge - Depending on your medical history and your current condition you may need a trainer who has the knowledge about your condition(s). Make sure to advise your Personal Trainer of all your conditions, injuries or concerns before you begin training.
  • Personality - You should be comfortable with your Personal Trainer and get along well with him or her.  Your Trainer should also be a good listener and be very focused with you during the workouts.

The first assessment with your Personal Trainer:

Prior to beginning your first workout, your trainer will do a fitness assessment, talk with you about your goals, and set up a workout schedule. During your initial meeting you should let your trainer know about any medical conditions or any injuries you may have.
